SALTWATER.
It's an environment like no other.
A place where giants are stalked. Where boundaries are meaningless.
And where salt and sun join forces to tear men and engines apart. We
know. Saltwater demands more. That's why every saltwater engine we produce
is designed, built and tested specifically for it.
That bears repeating.
Every Mercury® engine has been conceived, manufactured and proven
according to the way you use it. In the real world. Far from shore.
And under conditions that would make freshwater boaters queasy. We call
it the Mercury® Saltwater Advantage. And for us it means building
reliability directly into every product we manufacture. It means testing
those products harder than any other company would think to. And it
means always finding new ways to make your time on the water everything
you want and need it to be.
Mercury® Saltwater Outboards. The first name in saltwater
performance.
WE START BY LOCKING OUT CORROSION.
Salt can be sneaky. And worse than that, it can be downright vindictive.
It can find ways to penetrate virtually anything it touches-causing
corrosion,
rust and even failure. So that's where we set our sights first. At Mercury®
we
don't protect our engines from the outside in. We protect them from
the inside out. By using an exclusive low-copper aluminum alloy-our
own XK-360-to stop the corrosive effects of salt before they even start.
What's more, we use an unprecedented amount of stainless steel to ensure
that each and every engine is protected all the way down to the bone.
And we seal it all off with specially-designed saltwater cowls that
fit so precisely, they lock out damaging saltwater and corrosion. But
even these are just the first of many steps toward stopping salt in
its tracks.
No other manufacturer does more to fight salt on all fronts. That's
because it's our goal to make sure each and every Mercury® Saltwater
Outboard provides the maximum possible protection against corrosion.
EVERY COMPONENT. EVERY PROCESS. EVERY ENGINE.
PROTECTED.
We then put the parts of each engine through a unique, multistep cleaning
and painting process-a process that includes our exclusive Electro Deposition
Priming. This process uses an electric charge to bond epoxy primer paint
to every possible surface-providing uniform coverage and reaching any
internal cavities or passages that would be unreachable with conventional
spray priming. This step-along with dozens of others designed to lock
out corrosion both above and below the waterline-helps provide a level
of protection that's second to none.
Our exclusive, low-copper XK-36O alloy-along with our extensive use
of stainless steel-provides exceptional protection both above and below
the waterline.
Our multistep cleaning and painting process-along with such added features
as self-sacrificing aluminum anodes provides even further protection.
And we've made flushing our engines-and ensuring their long-Iasting
performance-simpler than ever. So simple, all it takes is a common garden
hose.
RELIABILITY IS BUILT RIGHT IN.
But it's not enough for us to claim reliability. We've got to stand
behind what we produce. Which is why we back every engine we manufacture
with an exclusive 3-year limited warranty against corrosion failure.
So you can be sure that the engine you buy is more than equal to the
way you plan to use it. Whether in harsh sun or bitter salt, each and
every Mercury® saltwater outboard is designed, built and tested
to take it.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT TESTING. AND RETESTING.
But building the best takes more than exacting standards. More than
the best materials. Which is why we subject our products to the most
extreme and rigorous testing processes imaginable. We do it so you can
be sure the product you receive is both durable and reliable - and to
be sure it will offer superior performance under even the most grueling
conditions. From corrosion testing to accelerated life simulations -
we also test, our engines, metals, alloys, and components under the
worst punishments we can create - both in-house at our state-of-the-art
Internal Testing Center (ITC)-and in the field. We test in some of the
world's harshest climates - from frigid Greenland to the blistering
Middle East to be sure your Mercury® engine performs how and when
you need it.
